FOR THE KIDS
MICK
GUTTAU was a Cobra helicopter pilot during the
Vietnam War. MICK shared a few stories
of his experiences in training and on the battlefield with his military
buddies. MICK said they truly believed
in their mission in Vietnam
and everyone was always concerned with those in trouble around them. A tee shirt MICK saw at the Vietnam Memorial
in Washington, DC said it best with the slogan “If you need
me I will come.” Some of the more
pleasant memories, MICK explained, were those concerning the children. He particularly remembered Christmas day on
the airbase with children from a local orphanage. MICK said it made it easier to be there
fighting the Viet Cong with the realization that they were fighting for a
better future for the Vietnamese children.
Mick noted he wrote a letter home to JUDY every day and they have a
trunk of 700 letters, which might be transformed into a book some day.
